Q2 OR#10
In the next installment of my chosen outside reading book, "Genghis: Lords of the Bow" by Conn Iggulden, the city of Yenking finally falls, but not in fire. Kokchu succeeded in convincing the Khan to put up the white tent and allow tribute to be offered instead of destroying the city. Genghis watches as the miles of carts and people progess slowly from the city with mounds of silk and jade. Genghis is not entirely happy, because what is gold to him? He cannot use it to survive or fight, he cannot strap it to his horse when traveling. The city is deserted after the Mongols spread out to defeat all of the cities, but the tribes soon learn of an army of 50,000 chinese marching towards the city, and they quickly return and obliterate the army. the only reason Genghis would accept another tribute is to show that he has total control and gets what he 'wants' and to put that facade forth, he accepts the jade and such.
